Today we went to the New England Aquarium. http://www.neaq.org/visit_planning/index.php We had a great time. We took the commuter rail and the subway and took a walk though the city. I love Boston. It was a trip full of fun and learning. The kids had a great time. Some of the things we learned through out the day were..
- Map reading both on the sub way and at the aquarium
- about all the different fish and Penguins
- how to navigate the city streets
- about the rain forest
- the Maine Harbor
- how to hold a starfish
- how to get the rays to come to you
- about why we need to take care of our environment
- and so much more!
I have always found it truly awesome how much people learn while they thing they are having fun. We took a trip in the Aquarium because of my sons interest in sharks. But if you want a it met our curriculum plans, it also fit into our study a few months ago about the Amazon rain forest. they had a great exhibit showing the trees and how wet it is and how vines grown around the trees with out soil. We got to see the frogs of the rain forest. We are currently reading and doing a unit study of the book Nim’s Island. We got to see what the ocean in like in the south pacific where Nim’s Island is.
